Keeping it local

Is it a car wrecker? A juice factory? Well yeah, once upon a time it was, but nowadays this Boundary Road warehouse shed is home to Station Brewing, a small family-run brewery that has been bringing locals and craft beer lovers together since 2023.

The brainchild of Grant Radka and Frauke Moritz, the idea for the brewery was planted several years before the doors were opened, when Grant decided to take his passion for home brewing to the next level. He dedicated the next decade to perfecting the craft, spending time on a large scale production brewery in Samoa, researching beer 101 in Germany, and accumulating knowledge at local craft breweries in the Central Otago region. Grant took the time to refine his brewing process, understand the many nuances of beer making, and figure out where he wanted to position himself within the craft beer landscape.

Alongside one or two guest taps, Station Brewing currently has a small but mighty range available to sip on site, including the ‘Prescription Pils’ Pilsner, ‘Dinner for Two’ Hazy IPA, and a special APA created in memory of local drummer Wayne Hammond with proceeds going towards a cause that supports men’s mental health.

Your pints are in good company with a solid menu of bar snacks, including naked or loaded fries, Korean ribs and beef brisket burgers. On Thursday and Friday there are lunch specials, and a sandwich special hits the menu every Sunday. Grant and Frauke are aspiring to become a smokehouse gastro pub so look out as they start to add more delicious smoked items to the blackboard.

Station Brewing is a relaxed and low-key spot that anyone could visit and leave with a five-star review. Fire up a game of Scrabble after work, enjoy live music sessions on the weekend, bring your kids along for a chill Sunday afternoon in the beer garden, or host your next big party here. At the end of the day, Grant and Frauke are all about creating a place built around its people – with really great beer on tap.
